Last Friday afternoon the Subway Spikers’ volleyball competition in its last round of play
before this Friday’s finals got under way at Stadium 2,000. Years 5/6 play each week in
the 4pm time slot. In the game between The Tasty Renwick Popcorn and Springlands’
Spikers we saw stand out plays from Springlands Fletcher Phalons serving with
accuracy and all round play by Braydom McDonald and Jack Williams made the
difference and guided their team to a well deserved 3 nil victory. For the Popcorns
Thornton Neil was a stand out player with some good serving and very strong receiving.
In the older, year 7/8 grade Bohally Spikaholics v St Marys Diggers. Spikaholics had
some strong serving from Mikayla Mawson and Lucy Collier. And some great receiving
from Hannah Roche but this was neutralised by Sommer Christi worked tirelessly at the
net for St Mary’s and backed-up by some great serving from team mates Maddi Beleski
and Hauki Millan-Ratima.
The Subway Fairplay Team of the Week Award in the form of a team Subway food
platter went to Bohally Spikaholics who didn’t have to win to be good sports.
The Spikers’ Volleyball season concludes this Friday with finals being played throughout
the three grades. Players, their friends and families and the general public are most
welcome to come along to the stadium and watch these competitive yet fun loving
young folk enjoying their sport.
